Rosberg: Relations with Lewis will improve
27 May 2014 – Nico Rosberg believes his relationship with Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton will improve despite what happened in Monaco.
Rosberg re-took the lead in the battle for the 2014 Formula 1 Drivers' Championship following his victory on Sunday. However, Hamilton was still deeply unhappy with the way the German had taken pole position the previous day and while cleared by the stewards, the Briton remained convinced his rival had gone off on purpose in the final part of qualifying, reiterating after the race that the two of them 'are not friends' but 'colleagues'.
"We discuss the issues and we have already discussed them and it will again be better and it will be forgotten," Rosberg told a news conference today, according to Reuters.
"In our sport we can only have success as a team," he added. "Nothing can happen alone. I make an effort for teamwork and for the atmosphere in the team.
"It is a bit more difficult internally at the moment. But it has happened in the past as well in our sport."
Rosberg's comments echo those he made post-race in Monaco: "We have had discussions and the benefit we have is that we have known each other for so long," he said on Sunday.
"We always sit down and discuss it and then move on and that is what we are doing this weekend also."
Quizzed on comments he had reportedly made that Hamilton can 'crack' when he goes through difficult periods, Rosberg replied: "That is definitely very, very far from anything that I have ever said and ever would say. Definitely not and I have known Lewis for many, many years and he is always been strong, among other things mentally, so I am definitely not expecting him to crack any time soon, that is for sure.
"It is going to be a tough battle which is going to be ongoing, but I would never say something like that," Rosberg emphasised.
