McLaren denies Honda stake reports
29 May 2014 – McLaren has denied reports that future engine partner Honda is interested in buying a stake in the team.
It had been suggested that Honda, returning to the fray next season having previously supplied McLaren with engines from 1988 to 1992, was interested in securing shares held by Bahrain's Mumtalakat Holding Company.
But a statement issued by McLaren on Thursday brushed the recent media speculation to one side.
"Contrary to recent media reports, Honda has informed us that it has no intention to buy into McLaren," a spokesman explained. "All of Honda's focus is on the development of its new Formula 1 power unit."
McLaren and Honda captured four Constructors' titles and as many Drivers' crowns during their previous spell together, with Ayrton Senna claiming overall honours in 1988, 1990 and 1991, and Alain Prost in 1989.
