Booth sure Marussia can score again
30 May 2014 – Marussia Team Principal John Booth says that scoring their maiden points at last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix has raised the bar for future events as they seek to repeat the feat.
Jules Bianchi came home in ninth place to secure his and Marussia's first points in Formula 1 and Booth says that the team must now target a repeat performance at certain events.
"It does, definitely," he said to Crash.net on whether Bianchi's result changes the team's goals.
"We think that we can do it now. We think that we can perform at this level – maybe not at places like Canada, Monza and Spa might be quite difficult for us – but in Austria, Silverstone, Hungary we think we can repeat this level of performance there."
Marussia's two points means that the squad is now in ninth place in the championship - ahead of Sauber and Caterham - and in line for a financial reward, but Booth believes that the human impact of last weekend's result is just as important.
"There's financial potential, but it gives us belief in what we're doing," he said. "We're a small band of people, we're 193 people in total – I think we're 130 less than any other team – and it gives us faith in the work we do and what we do.
"We brought some very small parts to the car in Barcelona, we started unlocking that potential in the test at Barcelona so we came here with a lot of hope.
"But when I say a few small parts, I mean a few small parts that cost a few thousand pounds; it's not a £100,000 upgrade, it's a few thousand pounds. So it gives us a lot of belief in what we're doing."
