Vergne not worrying about Red Bull axe
4 June 2014 – Jean-Eric Vergne has said he is not worried he will be dropped by Scuderia Toro Rosso at the end of this year and has said he is confident Red Bull believe in him and his abilities.
Vergne began the 2014 Formula 1 season well and was eighth in Australia. However, since then he has had a miserable run of luck, in some ways he is increasingly in danger of being overshadowed by his rookie team-mate Daniil Kvyat.
Speaking to italiaracing.net when it was put to him that no driver has ever done more than three seasons at Toro Rosso - the Frenchman is currently in his third year with Red Bull's 'B' team, he replied: "Well if it is as you say, then there is little to do. I will go home," he laughed.
"Joking aside, I do not believe that these situations can be reduced to a statistical evaluation like that. Red Bull and Toro Rosso have never been afraid of dropping drivers they do not believe in anymore. But if they did not believe in me they would have dropped me at the end of last year. I am still here and I think that is because they do believe in me and in my abilities."
"As I have said before, my integration with the technical staff has grown significantly and the results show that is bearing fruit now. The team is aware of that.
"As for me [personally], I feel at home, as if the team is my family. I do not think they are going to tear apart a package that works," he added.
