Hamilton talks down Q3 mistakes
7 June 2014 – Lewis Hamilton has played down the impact of errors he made on his final qualifying lap in Montreal on Saturday afternoon.
The Mercedes driver ran too deep at Turns 6 and 8 and lost out to team-mate Nico Rosberg by a narrow margin of 0.079 seconds.
"I went wide at Turn 6 and Turn 8, but no, Nico did a better job so I need to work hard to make sure I do a better job tomorrow," said Hamilton.
"It wasn't a great qualifying session – sometimes you have good ones and sometimes you have bad ones. [But] it's great that we got a 1-2."
Although Rosberg is his primary target, Hamilton is refusing to rule out competition from the cars behind.
"I don't think it is between the two of us," he said. "Sebastian [Vettel] wasn't as close as he'd like in qualifying but their race pace was good last time so we cannot disregard them. We need to be cautious and keep pushing."
