Button expecting tyre strategy to be crucial
7 June 2014 – Jenson Button believes that perfecting tyre strategy will be the key to achieving a good result during Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Button qualified eighth quickest for the race and is hopeful that McLaren can benefit from predicted high temperatures.
"It's going to be such a difficult afternoon for everyone which is great, we're not in a position that we're happy with so hot temperatures could mix it up, maybe starting outside the top 10 is a good thing, maybe it's not," he said.
"The tyre you start on, whether you start on new tyres, one stop, two stop, three stops, there's so many different scenarios and it's good for Formula 1 as it should be a good race. We just have to make sure we're the ones to make the right call."
McLaren team-mate Kevin Magnussen will start from 12th.
"Jenson probably got the maximum from the car today," he said. "But Q2 was a bit tougher for me. The car actually feels good – there's not much I'd do to change the set-up – but the car's lack of downforce means that we're not quick enough."
