Ricciardo 'in shock' after maiden victory
8 June 2014 – Daniel Ricciardo says he is in a state of shock after claiming his first ever Formula 1 victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver gradually worked his way through the field from sixth on the grid during Sunday's 70-lap encounter, capitalising on Lewis Hamilton's brake-related retirement before pulling fine overtaking manoeuvres on Sergio Pérez and long-time leader Nico Rosberg.
"I'm still a bit in shock. This is ridiculous!" Ricciardo exclaimed.
"The race really came to life in the last 15-20 laps. Hamilton had a problem then Rosberg was slow along the straights.
"I really struggled to get past Pérez, the car was quick on the straights and fast in the corners. Finally I got a run and made a made into Turn 1. Then with Rosberg I just found myself in the right spot for DRS."
The Australian, closest to the Mercedes drivers in the standings, summed up: "It's an amazing feeling."
Ricciardo's team-mate, Sebastian Vettel, gave Red Bull its first double podium of the finish in third.
