Watson: Rosberg more complete than Hamilton
11 June 2014 – Ex-Formula 1 driver John Watson has described Nico Rosberg as a "more rounded and complete" package than Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton, as the duo continue their battle for the 2014 world title.
Although Hamilton suffered technical-related retirements in Australia and Canada, Rosberg has proven more than a match for the former World Champion at the past two events, increasing his lead to 22 points.
"Everybody knows [Hamilton] has brilliant natural speed – all the things you need to be quick," began Watson, speaking to GPUpdate.net. "[But] in terms of the two people, I think Nico is more rounded and complete.
"He may not – even though he proved otherwise at the Monaco and Canadian Grands Prix – be the quickest guy in the world, but he is maximising his strengths extremely efficiently and productively.
"Lewis has got to win the next four events [to close the gap to Rosberg in the standings]. But it's not easy. Rosberg's performances at the past two Grands Prix have been very, very impressive."
With tensions between the pair recently coming to a head, Watson argued that Hamilton should avoid talking about his partnership with Rosberg in the build up to races and instead focus on beating the German on track.
"Lewis is an emotional, 'wear your heart on your sleeve' sort of person," Watson went on to explain. "He didn't help himself by references to his background and upbringing. He doesn't need to go down those routes.
"He should think and not speak and let his driving do his talking, which he is more than capable of doing."
