Haas: Patrick would be dream driver
11 June 2014 – Gene Haas has described Danica Patrick as "the dream driver" to field alongside a more experienced team-mate when his newly-announced, eponymous Formula 1 outfit enters the top echelon in 2016.
With Haas – hoping to take advantage of the sport's upcoming changes to 'customer car' rules and source the majority of parts from rival teams – ramping up plans for his new squad, talk has naturally turned to drivers.
And he reckons 32-year-old Patrick – a race winner in America's IndyCar series – would be a strong choice.
"Danica Patrick in one of our cars would be the dream driver…" Haas told the official Formula 1 website.
"She surely fits the bill. She is a woman in a man's sport – that would attract a lot of attention. She weighs about 50 kilos – which these day sounds fantastic – so indeed she's got a lot of attributes that would be good to have."
Haas is hoping to attract the services of an active Formula 1 driver to lead the team during its debut season.
"Realistically the first driver is going to be a current F1 driver who knows the ins and outs of the sport, to help us sort out what we have to do and who can give a lot of feedback. Driver number two would be American," he said.
