Maldonado: Lotus capable of regular points
15 June 2014 – Pastor Maldonado says Lotus is capable of scoring regular points if it overcomes its reliability issues.
At the recent Canadian Grand Prix, Maldonado gradually climbed up the order and into the top ten after his exit from the first qualifying session, but the former GP2 Champion had to retire because of a power unit issue.
"We can see how much improvement there has been with pace of the car," he said. "When we have the reliability issues sorted we'll be regularly fighting for points. Then the next target is to fight for more points and podiums.
"We've seen that the Mercedes are not perfect and can be beaten. Even they had reliability issues in Canada."
Maldonado was also keen to dispel rumours that his relationship with the team has taken a turn for the worse.
"We all know what we have to do and we are all pushing hard. Yes, we can all get frustrated, but ultimately we all
want to achieve success so we remain positive," Maldonado, yet to get off the mark in 2014, clarified.
