Pérez: Austria inexperience can provide chances
17 June 2014 – Force India driver Sergio Pérez is hopeful that the unknown nature of the Red Bull Ring for the majority of teams and drivers will play to his advantage at this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix.
Only four of the current drivers – Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa and Jenson Button – have raced in Formula 1 at the circuit, a situation Pérez reckons will lead to extra opportunities.
"I don't really know what to expect because it's my first visit to the track, but I'm really looking forward to going there," said the Mexican racer.
"It's a circuit that not many people know and so it can give you an opportunity to find a small advantage. You have to learn fast and be ready to adapt. A new circuit is always a bit more of a challenge, but it's interesting and I like the look of the track layout."
Pérez also echoed comments made by Force India team-mate Nico Hülkenberg with regards to the tyre compounds and circuit characteristics potentially aiding the VJM07.
"I'm happy to see these tyres being used and I think it's the right decision," he said.
"I also think the layout of the track will work well for our car. Hopefully we will have the opportunity for another strong performance there."
