Podolski dedicates Germany win to Schumacher
17 June 2014 – Germany footballer Lukas Podolski has dedicated his country's 4-0 World Cup win over Portugal to Michael Schumacher, following the news that the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion is no longer in a coma.
Schumacher, 45, had been in a medically-induced coma at the University Hospital in Grenoble after suffering serious head injuries in a skiing accident while on holiday at the resort of Meribel, France, on December 29.
"He's a good friend a good guy and he's also crazy about football," said Podolski, a late substitute for fellow striker Thomas Müller, who scored a hat-trick. "Maybe he watched the game or he knew about the result."
Schumacher has been moved to a hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, which is closer to his family's home.
