Rosberg: I have edge now over Hamilton
18 June 2014 – Nico Rosberg believes he now has the edge over his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton following the results in Monaco and Canada.
Rosberg goes to Austria this weekend with a 22-point lead in the 2014 Formula 1 Drivers' World Championship having ended Hamilton's race winning run in Monaco. He then finished second in his ailing car last time out in Canada while his team-mate retired.
"If your team-mate has three or four wins in a row that's obviously going to strengthen his position. So it was really important to bring that run to an end because psychology is a big part of sports. If you have those results behind you, like I do now, it gives you that little bit extra, that little bit of an edge, so it does help. It is important," Rosberg told the Press Association.
Meanwhile he added that after Mercedes' reliability problems in the Canadian Grand Prix, Austria will be all about bouncing back.
"I'm looking forward to the race in Austria and a chance to get back to our winning form once again," he continued in Mercedes' official preview for the event. "Although I've driven the circuit before, that was more than ten years ago in F3: back when it was still called the A1 Ring!
"Of course, it will be very different in a Turbocharged, V6 Hybrid Formula 1 car, so it's basically like starting from scratch for everyone on the grid.
"Personally, I love that kind of challenge, so I'm excited to get back in the car and go for another top result," he concluded.
