Force India requests review of Pérez penalty
19 June 2014 – Force India has requested a review of the Canadian Grand Prix stewards' decision to hand Sergio Pérez a five-place grid penalty for this weekend's race in Austria, the team has confirmed to GPUpdate.net.
Pérez was given the grid drop after being deemed responsible for causing a collision with Williams rival Felipe Massa on the final lap of the Montreal race, the pair sliding into the trackside barriers at the first corner.
Force India wrote to the FIA following the event to explain that it had 'new elements' of evidence regarding the incident and, as per article 13.10 of the FIA Sporting Code, asked for the decision to be reviewed.
"We believe we have enough evidence to prove that I did nothing wrong," said Pérez on Thursday.
With the Canada stewards unable to process the request, it has been handed over to the Austrian panel.
A special hearing, with Pérez, other representatives of Force India and the FIA, will take place at the Red Bull Ring at 9am local time (GMT +2) on Friday "in order to determine whether or not a new element exists".
Should the stewards decide that Force India's claim is correct, it will organise a second hearing at 4pm local time on Friday. This would include drivers Pérez and Massa and representatives from Force India and Williams.
