Vettel admits he 'wasn't quick enough'
21 June 2014 – Sebastian Vettel has admitted that he simply "wasn't quick enough" during Saturday's qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver is due to start the race from 12th position after missing the Q3 cut, eight places back on team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.
"There were no real problems today, other than that we weren't quick enough," Vettel conceded after the session. "Daniel was quicker than me through Turn 5 and has been quicker in Turn 2 all weekend."
Despite the disappointment, Vettel is optimistic over his chances of fighting back on Sunday afternoon and securing a large haul of points.
"It should be hotter tomorrow and hopefully we can make a big step and take on some of the other cars."
Ricciardo shared Vettel's view that the weekend has been a challenging one for the team, and says fifth was the maximum he could have achieved in qualifying, given the pace of the Williams, Mercedes and Ferrari cars.
"It was tough out there," Ricciardo commented. "It's been tough all weekend to be honest and it's felt like we've had to squeeze everything out of the car to get into the top five, which we just managed to do today.
"All weekend we've been on the back foot and I think respect to the other teams, they managed to get their cars dialled in well. We've just got to keep pushing. Fifth was the best we could have done in that session today."
