Ferrari on the right road, says Alonso
21 June 2014 – Fernando Alonso reckons Ferrari is "on the right road" with the development of its F14 T after his qualifying performance in Austria.
Alonso will start Sunday's race from fourth on the grid, behind Williams drivers Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas and Mercedes' Nico Rosberg.
And although wary of a potentially misleading grid, with Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton failing to record a time in Q3, the Spaniard feels his team has moved forward since applying a batch of car upgrades in Montreal.
"Fourth should make us proud of what we have accomplished," he said.
"The updates we started bringing since Canada seem to indicate we are on the right road."
But despite the result, Alonso is keeping his feet on the ground ahead of what he expects to be a tough race.
"With some faster cars behind us, we can expect a difficult race, in which defending will be as important as attacking," said Alonso, one of only four drivers on the grid to have contested a Grand Prix at Spielberg.
"Now we must try and work out how to make the most of this advantage for as long as possible."
Alonso's team-mate, Kimi Räikkönen, will start from eighth position after a sloppy qualifying session.
