Williams: We knew Mercedes would win
22 June 2014 – Claire Williams has admitted that Mercedes' one-two result during Sunday afternoon's Austrian Grand Prix came as no surprise.
After locking out the front row of the grid, Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas were able to hold track position on the opening lap of the race.
But Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton capitalised during the pit-stop phases and ultimately secured another perfect result.
Bottas held on to claim his first Formula 1 podium in third position, while Massa kept Ferrari's Fernando Alonso at bay to finish fourth.
"We all knew Mercedes would take the win so P3 and P4 is wonderful," Deputy Team Principal Williams told Sky Sports.
"Valtteri has done a great job and I'm just so thrilled for him. Felipe's first stop was slower and it was tricky but these things happen. I'm not disappointed.
"I think they [Mercedes] have so much pace that where we were was probably true to form."
Williams says the result gives the team a sizeable boost ahead of its home race at Silverstone.
"We've got the Mercedes power unit so on a track like Silverstone the car should be well-suited," she said.
"We can build on this momentum and have another great result there."
