Force India: Stronger showing needed in Germany
7 July 2014 – Force India boss Vijay Mallya has called on his team to respond with a stronger showing in Germany following a low-scoring British Grand Prix.
Nico Hülkenberg classified eighth, while Sergio Pérez was just outside the points in 11th after a first lap collision with the Toro Rosso of Jean-Éric Vergne.
As a result, the Silverstone-based squad slips behind Williams to fifth in the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship, and only 1 point ahead of McLaren in sixth.
"After such a strong qualifying performance, we were naturally expecting more from Sunday's race," said Mallya.
"While circumstances played into our hands on Saturday [with Nico qualifying in P4 and Sergio in P7], Sunday we were not so fortunate with Checo's race heavily compromised by the contact with the Toro Rosso on lap one.
"The windy conditions also returned, which appeared to have an impact on our performance.
"On the positive side we continued our run of points finishes with Nico adding another four points to our tally. It means Nico and the team have scored in every race this season.
"As we near the halfway point of the season the battle in the championship is closer than ever, however, so it's important that we respond with a stronger showing in Germany in a couple of weeks' time."
