Räikkönen to skip post-British GP test
7 July 2014 – Kimi Räikkönen is fine but will skip testing this week at Silverstone in the wake of his opening lap crash in the British Grand Prix, GPUpdate.net has been informed.
Räikkönen had been due to run on the Wednesday, taking over from Ferrari test driver Pedro de la Rosa. However, Ferrari Driver Academy man Jules Bianchi will now fill the void. The Frenchman will also run on Tuesday, but for Marussia, the team with which he is racing with this season.
"Räikkönen still has pain and some bruising in his left ankle and knee after his car hit the barriers [on Sunday]. Therefore Scuderia Ferrari has decided to rest the Finn so that he can be fully fit for the German Grand Prix on 20th July at Hockenheim," Ferrari later said via its official website.
De la Rosa has yet to drive the F14 T in real life, although he has done a number of kilometres in the simulator, along with Davide Rigon and Andrea Bertolini.
Bianchi has also not run in Ferrari's 2014 Formula 1 car, although he did drive for the Scuderia at the end of last year in December's Pirelli tyre test.
Meanwhile, team-mate Fernando Alonso will spend much of this week at Maranello, driving in the simulator.
