Mark Sutton: Story behind the shot - Britain
9 July 2014 – Especially for lovers of motorsport photography, GPUpdate.net is this season running a feature series entitled Story behind the shot. Mark Sutton of Sutton Images, who provides our website with pictures, will choose his favourite photo from each Grand Prix weekend with a description as to how he captured it.
British Grand Prix: Maldonado takes off
Mark Sutton: "I was positioned at Club corner, perfect for the grid and photographing the VIPs and celebrities following the teams and drivers. I then took a rear photo of the grid and ran to my position at Club, where there was plenty of overtaking. Luckily there was a TV screen opposite, so I could see any developing battles.
"I was primed and ready for action when I saw Esteban Gutiérrez push down the inside of Pastor Maldonado. I thought it would be interesting and I was right, they collided. I followed them through the corner when they touched again, with Pastor heading into the air as I kept my finger well and truly down on the shutter button.
"It was an amazing sequence. I sent the images via 4G back to the office, which I think were the first online."
