Pérez sets sights on more podium finishes
14 July 2014 – Sergio Pérez is confident of adding to his Formula 1 podium tally during the second half of the season.
The Mexican, who switched to Force India after a challenging campaign at McLaren, visited the rostrum at the third round of the season in Bahrain, finishing as best of the rest behind the dominant Mercedes machines.
Having agonisingly missed out on another top three result at last month's Canadian Grand Prix, where he was involved in a last-lap clash with Williams rival Felipe Massa, Pérez is eager to take home more trophies.
"I'd like to score some more podiums," Pérez explained during an interview with GPUpdate.net.
"I believe we can do it as a team, so hopefully in the next races we can score a podium."
When asked what it would take for Force India achieve its maiden victory, Pérez responded: "Mercedes is quite far [ahead]. We need something like what happened in Canada, where we were so close to the win.
"[Race leader] Nico [Rosberg] was having some problems so I was just running in second position, but then we had the brake-by-wire failure. That made my race very difficult. And then I had the clash with Felipe.
"We need to close the gap a bit more and be in that position, get a bit lucky, then we can dream of victory."
After his unsuccessful McLaren stint, Pérez says he being spurred on by the atmosphere at Force India.
"The team believes in me and that's a big boost," he said. "We have great spirit, a very hungry team.
"They let me do my job and they support me. As a driver that's the best thing you can have."
