Mercedes solves Rosberg gearbox problem
15 July 2014 – Mercedes has determined the cause of the gearbox issue Nico Rosberg suffered at the British Grand Prix.
The German was leading at Silverstone when his unit hit trouble and gradually worsened, leading to his first retirement of the 2014 campaign and handing the race victory to team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
But the outfit says measures have since been taken to ensure that there is no repeat in future races.
"The main priority of the days since has been to understand the gearbox problem we saw with Nico's car and to make sure there is no recurrence moving forwards," said Paddy Lowe, Executive Director (Technical).
"A lot of work has been put into rectifying the issue and we head to Hockenheim with a remedy in place."
Rosberg is keen to rebuild his advantage at Hockenheim after Hamilton cut it from 29 points to four.
"I lost a lot of points and the championship battle is very close, but I'm feeling good," he said. "From the test last week we're straight into the next race and another chance to regain the momentum, which is my target."
