Smedley: Hockenheim should be good for us
16 July 2014 – Rob Smedley reckons the German Grand Prix this coming weekend should be a good one for Williams Martini Racing.
The Grove-based outfit has been strong this season and in the last two races in particular has delivered, with Valtteri Bottas finishing third in Austria and then second in Britain two weeks ago.
Smedley, Williams' Head of Vehicle Performance, is now hoping Hockenheim will be just as fruitful and with Ferrari only three points in front in the Constructors' Championship, the team could move ahead and up into third this Sunday.
"We haven't been to Hockenheim for two years as a team because you alternate the tracks in Germany but I think that it can be a good track for us," Smedley said prior to the tenth round in the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship.
"It's like Silverstone in the way that it's quite an efficient track. There's good power sensitivity with the long straights which will be good for us. We hope to come out with more good points," he added.
Bottas and team-mate Felipe Massa are both confident they can do well.
"I think it should be a circuit that suits our car and I hope we can continue the good form we have had in the last three races. I am looking forward to a good weekend and some more points," Bottas stated.
Massa echoed those sentiments: "We have been building on what is a good car, so I am confident that we can continue the momentum and have a good performance."
