Pérez expecting stronger race performance
19 July 2014 – Sergio Pérez is expecting Force India to deliver a stronger race performance at Hockenheim, after finishing at the tail-end of the top 10 in qualifying.
Pérez and team-mate Nico Hülkenberg both made it through to the final shootout on Saturday afternoon but finished as the slowest of the runners involved, with Hülkenberg narrowly faster.
The Mexican is certain, however, that the pair can make significant progress tomorrow afternoon, particularly if temperatures remain high.
"We were really strong on Friday with our long runs in hot conditions, so if it stays like this we know what we have to do. I'm very confident," said Pérez, when asked by GPUpdate.net what race conditions he would prefer.
"We definitely have more race pace than quali pace. These conditions seem to suit us well with degradation so I think we should be in a strong position tomorrow to fight for big points."
Pérez hailed the efforts of his team after a gearbox issue struck his car in the second qualifying phase.
"In Q1 we were not so good and then we had an issue with the gearbox in Q2," he explained.
"We didn't get to run the first set of tyres, so that really put us quite far behind. We only had one shot at it to make it into Q3. I'm really happy for us as it was a real effort after all of the issues we had."
