Alonso: Ferrari made small step forward
21 July 2014 – Fernando Alonso believes the Scuderia made a "small step forward" at the German Grand Prix.
Alonso enjoyed battles with the Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo and at the finish split them, finishing in fifth place.
"Here in Hockenheim, we made a small step forward and even if that didn't translate into lap time, it encourages us to keep trying to improve," Alonso reflected.
"It was a good race, even if it was very complex, as we decided to change from a two to a three-stop strategy.
"It was not easy fighting while also keeping an eye on consumption and in the end, with the help of newer tyres, getting ahead of Ricciardo meant we finished in the highest position that we were capable of."
"We did what we could," he added.
Alonso's focus now switches to Hungary this coming week and when asked about his expectations, he gave little away.
"We will only find out how things will go once we are there at the Hungaroring, because every circuit is a story in itself," he replied.
