Magnussen to start from pit lane after crash
26 July 2014 – Kevin Magnussen will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from the pit lane as a result of the damage sustained in his qualifying crash.
The McLaren driver was one of the first out on track during a damp final shootout phase at the Hungaroring; he subsequently lost control of his car under braking for Turn 1 and slammed into the trackside barriers.
His mechanics will be required to carry out a chassis and gearbox change ahead of Sunday afternoon's race, which enforces a pit lane start.
"The track was much wetter at the first corner than it was at the last corner. As I came out of the final turn, there was full grip, so I braked for Turn 1 at the normal point, but it was much wetter," said Magnussen.
"Physically, I'm fine but I'm sad that I didn't get more out of it. I'm most disappointed for the team.
"Starting from the pitlane will make life more difficult, but I'm determined to have a strong race."
In the sister McLaren, Jenson Button qualified in seventh position.
