Button tips Hamilton to finish on podium
27 July 2014 – Jenson Button has tipped Lewis Hamilton to recover from his qualifying woes and finish on the Hungarian Grand Prix podium.
Hamilton dropped out of the first grid-deciding phase at the Hungaroring when his Mercedes suffered a fuel leak and erupted in flames.
He will start from the pit lane after chassis, engine and gearbox changes, but McLaren driver Button is expecting a successful recovery drive.
"If it's dry, it's obviously hard to overtake around here, but that car [the Mercedes] is by far the best car out there," Button commented.
"During the first few laps at Silverstone they were 2.5s quicker than anyone when they wanted to be. So he can use his tyres in certain ways to gain advantage, even if he's going to degrade them, as his pace is so good.
"As long as he keeps clean and doesn't have contact then there's a good chance he'll be on the podium.
"Qualifying hasn't been great for him the last few races, but I think he'll fight his way through."
