Ecclestone backtracks on Briatore input
31 July 2014 – Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has seemingly backtracked on plans to involve ex-team boss Flavio Briatore in a new working group dedicated to looking at ways of making the sport more popular.
Ecclestone, 83, explained to team bosses during a special meeting at the Hungarian Grand Prix that he was looking to include Briatore in an upcoming summit with a few outfits, where potential changes would be tabled.
But after the race, Ecclestone told Germany's Auto Motor Und Sport that the Italian may not be required.
"We do not need Flavio. We can do it ourselves," said Ecclestone, referring to the future discussions.
Briatore has not been involved in F1 since 2009, after his part in fixing the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
