Pérez: Hülkenberg bringing out best in me
4 August 2014 – Sergio Pérez says Force India team-mate Nico Hülkenberg is bringing out the best in him this season.
The pair have enjoyed a healthy intra-team battle during the first half of the 2014 campaign, helping Force India to enter the summer break in fifth position on a total of 98 points, just 11 adrift of its overall best haul.
Pérez, who gave the Silverstone-based outfit its first podium finish in five years at the Bahrain Grand Prix, previously raced with Kamui Kobayashi at Sauber and former World Champion Jenson Button at McLaren.
"Nico is definitely the strongest team-mate I have had in F1. He's very complete," Pérez told GPUpdate.net.
"He has taken the best out of me. I'm very happy that I have a team-mate like him who is pushing me, and I believe that I am also pushing him. We have a good relationship and we are working well together.
"We are doing a great job for the team and the team is happy, so I think the best is going to come."
Hülkenberg, having scored in all bar one of the opening 11 races, currently holds a 40-point advantage over Pérez, who was unable to make the start in Malaysia and crashed out of a frontrunning position in Canada.
Both drivers retired from the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, the team's only non-score of the season so far.
