Schumacher theft suspect found dead
6 August 2014 – A man arrested in connection with the suspected theft of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher's medical records has been found hanged in his prison cell, Swiss prosecutors have said.
The Zurich prosecutor's office said the man, who was arrested on Tuesday and has not been named, worked for the Rega air rescue service, which helped to move Schumacher from a French hospital to Switzerland in June.
Documents purported to be Schumacher's medical records were offered to numerous media outlets for 60,000 Swiss francs (£39,000) shortly after the hospital transfer had been completed, but they were not published.
Schumacher was taken to Grenoble Hospital, where he underwent two operations, after suffering severe head injuries in a skiing accident while on holiday at the Meribel resort, situated in the French Alps, on December 29.
The German remained in a coma for almost six months before being moved to Switzerland's Lausanne Hospital.
