Force India pair target consistent points
19 August 2014 – Force India pairing Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Pérez say that consistently finishing in the points must be their target for the second part of the Formula 1 season
Hülkenberg finished the first 10 races of the year in the points although he ended his run in Hungary when he ran into Pérez, who subsequently crashed out of proceedings.
Both drivers believe that Force India has the package to consistently challenge the top 10 positions, starting at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.
"I'm feeling upbeat," said Hülkenberg. "There's a lot at stake, but the team is up for the fight. We made the most of our opportunities in the first part of the season and we need to do the same in the final eight races.
"I expect a close battle in the championship until the end of the season so we need to be consistently picking up good points."
Pérez, who finished on the podium in Bahrain, has never finished in the points at Spa Francorchamps, having retired in 2011 and 2012 and finished only 11th last season. It is a statistic which he hopes to amend this weekend.
"I've never scored points at Spa, so that's my first target," he said.
"We also need to put the disappointment of Hungary behind us. Spa is a power track and I think we can perform well there. You also have to expect wet weather at some point so it could be quite unpredictable."
