Pirro driver steward for second race in row
20 August 2014 – Emanuele Pirro will be the FIA driver steward for the second race in succession this weekend in Belgium.
Pirro, who also performed the role in Hungary prior to Formula 1's summer break, will be carrying out the task for the ninth time in total.
The 51-year-old joins Dr Gerd Ennser and VIncenzo Spano on the panel for the 12th round in the championship.
Pirro contested 38 Formula 1 events between 1989 and 1991, spending his rookie season with Benetton before a two-year stint at Scuderia Italia. His best result was a fifth place in Austria.
He enjoyed more success elsewhere, however, and notched up five victories at the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours. He was also the American Le Mans Champion in 2001 and 2005 and in addition also won the German and Italian Touring Car championships.
