Rosberg reckons pole earned at Eau Rouge
23 August 2014 – Nico Rosberg reckons he beat Lewis Hamilton to pole position at Spa-Francorchamps with a superior run through Eau Rouge.
Taken flat out in recent years, the sport's new regulations have given the drivers a test, while wet conditions added to the qualifying challenge.
Rosberg ultimately took the top spot with a time of 2:05.591, including a best first sector, two tenths faster than his Mercedes team-mate.
"The car was handling well, we really fine-tuned it perfectly," he said.
"I felt comfortable and could push. It's a long race but I'm very happy."
Expanding on where he felt he held the upper hand over Hamilton during the final shootout phase, Rosberg explained: "I was feeling good through Eau Rouge, really going for it, so maybe that's where the time was won."
Championship leader Rosberg holds an 11-point lead over Hamilton heading into Sunday's race.
