Alonso insists he will stay at Ferrari
2 September 2014 – Fernando Alonso insists that he has no intention to leave Ferrari at the end of the 2014 campaign.
The Italian marque, which Alonso joined ahead of the 2010 season, has endured another challenging term, leaving it more than 250 points adrift of championship leaders Mercedes after 12 of 19 scheduled rounds.
But after team boss Marco Mattiacci verbally confirmed Alonso and team-mate Kimi Räikkönen for 2015 at the Belgian Grand Prix, Alonso has stated his desire to remain onboard and return the outfit to winning ways.
"It's not my intention at the moment to move, I want to win here and finish the job that we start some years ago," Alonso explained during an interview with Sky Sports.
McLaren is one team to have made public its interest in securing the Spaniard's services moving forward, despite a brief, tumultuous spell together back in 2007.
"There has been a lot of talk since last summer but from my mouth there never came any interest to leave or any words saying I would join another team," he said. "There was a lot of speculation, which is not disturbing but it created a little bit of tension. Yet you also feel happy and proud that the best teams have an interest in you."
Alonso is yet to add to his world title haul with Ferrari, but finished runner-up in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
