'I can't win the bloody thing!' - Ricciardo
17 September 2017 – Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo joked that he "can't win the bloody thing" after he finished on the podium at the Singapore Grand Prix for the fourth successive year.
Ricciardo, having topped Friday practice, outlined his confidence, though was unable to take pole position, missing out to Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
Ricciardo dropped behind Lewis Hamilton off the line but profited when Vettel, Verstappen and Kimi Räikkönen came together on the run to Turn 1, with all three retiring.
From there, Ricciardo maintained second position, behind Hamilton, to capture his fourth straight Singapore podium, and third runner-up spot on the bounce around the streets of Marina Bay.
"I can't win the bloody thing!" joked Ricciardo.
"I'm trying. I'm trying. I like it around here, [but] today we didn't have that Friday pace we showed in practice to have the pace on Mercedes.
"I'm a little bit disappointed to miss out on the win but I've still got to be grateful and happy with another podium."
Ricciardo reckons that his so-so getaway ultimately aided his chances, having avoided getting caught up in the drama elsewhere.
"I just kind of watched the chaos unfold in front of me," he said.
"It was probably a good thing that I had a bad start, otherwise I probably would have got caught up in it.
"It just looked like three were trying to go into one. I don't know whose fault it was, it was just too close."
