Australian Grand Prix master Michael Schumacher admitted he did not expect to be so dominant in the opening round of the 2004 season, though he was confident in the speed of his F2004 car following a strong final test at Imola prior to the Australian Grand Prix.

"I knew that we would be very very competitive because, having seen the last test at Imola, knowing the characteristics of the circuit, knowing the development we have done with the car, with the guys, I knew we would be very strong. That strong? No, I didn't anticipate," a delighted Schumacher admitted. In Australia the cooler conditions on race day played into the territory of Ferrari's tyre supplier Bridgestone and the pit lane anticipates that the extremely hot conditions expected in Malaysia will play more into Michelin's hands.

"It's interesting to see whether our new Bridgestone tyres maybe behave better in hotter temperatures," Schumacher said. "It's something I'm sure we'll find out in Malaysia."
