A massive turn-out for Tuesday's 'F1 Comes to Regent Street' demonstration has only intensified speculation that London might one day soon stage a Grand Prix. It's understood city mayor Ken Livingstone has asked Bernie Ecclestone for a street race with a route around Hyde Park already past the initial draft stage.

"We have discussed it with the Palace, with the Parks Agency and the Police,"said Livingstone. "We could get more than a million people to [the GP]"

'92 world champion Nigel Mansell believes London could do it. The Englishman, who did doughnuts in a Jordan EJ14 on Pall Mall, said London 'has the infrastructure and the organisation' to do Formula One 'within a year.'

Jenson Button said on Tuesday he'd never driven for a bigger audience.
