Afanasiev fastest in second session at Snetterton

7 April 2010

Sergey Afanasiev set the fastest lap during session two this morning, although Dean Stoneman's time from session one remains the overall benchmark of today.

With some spots of rain falling towards the end of the 90 minute session, only a handful of drivers improved upon their earlier time, with Afanasiev setting the pace. The Russian racer completed a 58.601s lap time in the final ten minutes to jump ahead of Johan Jokinen and Tom Gladdis, who had led the way for much of the session.

Overall it is now Stoneman ahead of Afanasiev and Jolyon Palmer, with just 0.099s separating the top three runners. Jokinen and Gladdis are now fourth and sixth respectively, with Indian driver Armaan Ebrahim splitting the pair in fifth.

"We're really just playing with set-ups at the moment," said Stoneman. "I have been concentrating on my own programme, but it is still good to go fastest. I think there is still some time to find in the car so we will see how it goes this afternoon."

The rest of the top ten remained unchanged, with Will Bratt being the next driver to improve - the British driver clocked a 59.230s lap time to move into 11th. Philipp Eng, Ivan Samarin, Natalia Kowalska and Kelvin Snoeks were also amongst those to improve during session two.

The top 13 drivers are separated by just 0.737s so far today, whilst only 1.4s separates the top 20 runners. All 22 cars will be back on circuit following a 90 minute lunch break.
