Italian racer Nicola de Marco does not believe that he will be able to seize an official FIA Superlicence, necessary to race or test in Formula 1, this season as he continues to chase down the top three in Formula 2.
With the top trio of F2 drivers collecting a Superlicence at the end of the year, de Marco – who sits eighth in the current standings - moved to within 51 points of the necessary position by collecting a win and sixth place in the Brno double-header at the beginning of the month.
“I don't think it will be possible to aim for third,” admitted Nicola, who turns 20 on Saturday.
“It's not far from a points point of view but it relies on Philipp (Eng) not scoring many points, which is nearly impossible. I'm not looking to gain a particular position but I want to do my best to end the season in a good way.”
With 14 races completed in F2 so far this year, only the quartet of rounds at Oschersleben and Valencia remain, with the first pair coming as September starts.
