Germany’s Johannes Theobald will make his first outing in Formula 2 this weekend, doing so as the championship heads to his home country and the Oschersleben circuit. The 23-year-old already has family connections in the series, as brother Julian has competed at the past two events.
Having previously raced in the World Series by Renault as well as finishing runner-up in the German Formel 3 championship, Theobald first drove F2 machinery in the July Brands Hatch test session. He now thoroughly looks forward to the upcoming weekend after recently taking a break from motorsport for financial reasons.
“I'm really, really happy to be participating at Oschersleben this weekend,” he smiled. “I honestly believe that F2 is one of the best things to happen in motorsport and I'm really looking forward to competing this weekend.
“Obviously my brother will also be competing but we've raced in the same series before - in Formula König and German F3 - and we always try to help and assist each other. I'm always a fair driver - I'm not a Schumacher, squeezing people into walls - and Julian is the same, so we make a good team.”
Johannes then shared his experience of testing the F2 equipment in Kent.
“I really liked the car,” he continued. “It was nice to drive, really powerful and handles really well. I felt comfortable in the car very quickly and I'm quite sure the Brands Hatch test helped me for this weekend; I didn't drive to the limits, as I didn't want to crash and lose seat time, so hopefully I can push a bit harder and be faster at Oschersleben.”
