Piñeiro secures Formula 2 seat
13 April 2011 – Ramón Piñeiro has confirmed his place on the 2011 Formula 2 grid, with the opening race of the season taking place at Silverstone this weekend. The young Spaniard competed in the final round of last year’s campaign in Valencia, securing a points finish in race two before going on to perform well during the various winter tests.
"I was P2 in testing here, so I expect a great weekend," Piñeiro commented. "The competitors will be hard to beat but I will give my all and achieve a strong result. F2 is great for showing potential as all the cars are equal and run by one team.
"I will fight for the championship. Testing has been good and I have expectations for the top. I look forward to being in the fight and taking podiums and wins."
Formula 2 Series Director Jonathan Palmer added: "I’m absolutely thrilled that Ramón will be racing in F2 this year. He came close to winning a very competitive FPA championship last year, and his debut at Valencia in Formula Two was outstanding. Given the promise he has shown so far, and his impressive pace in pre-season testing, I have no doubt Ramón will be a frontrunner this year."
