Abadín makes F2 switch
13 April 2011 – José Luis Abadín has added his name to the list of drivers who have recently signed up for the 2011 Formula 2 season, with the Spaniard confirming his place on a grid of over 20 competitors on Wednesday. The 24-year-old gained experience in the European F3 Open Series after progressing from karting, and went on to finish third in the 2009 Copa de España class with three wins to his name.
"I’m looking forward to F2 because following on from F3 it is the best option to fight on equal terms, and there is a high level of competition," the Orense-born man commented. "I have much less experience than the other drivers at Silverstone with this car but I will go step by step, learning everything, thanks to the extensive information that F2 gives me."
Formula 2 Series Director Jonathan Palmer was pleased to welcome Abadín: "Jose is an intelligent guy who’s eager to learn and progress in F2 as quickly as possible after three seasons in F3. Our onboard video and data sharing feature has yielded huge gains in performance for many drivers in F2, and this will be invaluable for Jose, who I fully expect to be challenging for points as the season progresses."
