Lancaster signs up for Formula 2

11 May 2011

Formula 2 series organiser MotorSport Vision has announced that Britain’s Jon Lancaster is joining the field from this weekend onwards. The 22-year-old, a past race winner in Formula Renault 3.5, will compete in Rounds 3 and 4 at Magny-Cours after first taking part in Wednesday’s test session.

Prior to his successes in Renault’s World Series, Lancaster – who hails from Leeds – has also enjoyed race victories in the F3 Euro Series and Formula Renault Eurocup.

“I’d been considering a move to F2 for a while although we’ve had to rush to make it in time for the Magny-Cours test!” he laughs. “I only arrived at the track this morning at 6am, so I’m just trying to get up to speed.

“I have raced at the French circuit before and have done a shakedown in the car at Bedford, so that should help this weekend. So far I really like the car and am getting used to the specific driving style.

“I only have one goal for this season and that’s simply to win and pick up the Williams F1 test.”

“We’re delighted that Jon has chosen to race in F2 this year,” adds Series Director Jonathan Palmer. “He is already a very accomplished driver with plenty of experience behind him and, despite being unfamiliar with the car, I have no doubt he’ll be a front-runner right from the start.”
