Binder to make F2 debut in Austria

19 August 2011

Rene Binder will make his Formula 2 debut on home soil at the Red Bull Ring next weekend, getting behind the wheel of the JPH1B for a one-off appearance in the hope of securing a full-time seat in 2011. The Austrian joins the category from German F3, having visited the podium during the first round of the season at Oschersleben.

"I’m really excited about racing at the Red Bull Ring," the 19-year-old said. "I competed there earlier this month which went well and it means I already know the track which I think will be a big help to me.

"I’ve not really had much chance to get to grips with the car but from the time I’ve had it felt nice to drive and is very different to anything else I’ve raced.

"At the moment I’m just competing in Austrian rounds but if things go well F2 is certainly a possibility for me next year."
