Zanella: Bortolotti can still be stopped

20 September 2011

Christopher Zanella believes Mirko Bortolotti can still be beaten to this year’s Formula 2 title. Heading into the next rounds at Monza – the penultimate meeting of the season – the Italian holds a 58-point advantage over the Swiss.

The Monza meeting will not be the first time Zanella has driven at the parkland circuit, as he has previously competed there in Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula 3.

“I will try to win both races at Monza and any driver knows anything can happen in the race,” says the 21-year-old. “I'm very much looking forward to the next rounds and I think it will be a good weekend, as long as I don't make any mistakes. The first corner - as we saw in the recent F1 race - will prove very important, as will the opening laps, so we'll just have to see what happens.”

Zanella adds that he does not feel threatened for the runner-up spot by Spain’s Ramón Piñeiro, who is currently placed fourth overall and 37 points in arrears of second after triumphing in the last three races: “I don't feel any pressure from Piñeiro. I'm more focused on Bortolotti and stopping him.”

Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2011 F2 season take place at Monza on 1-2 October.
