Monras quickest as rain hits Barcelona
28 October 2011 – Barcelona has been subject to intense showers on Friday morning, with Miki Monras able to put together the best lap in F2 practice at the Circuit de Catalunya. Behind the Spaniard, Champion Mirko Bortolotti finished half a second down as Christopher Zanella, poised to become championship runner-up, managed eighth place.
19-year-old Monras carried on from where he set off in Thursday’s pre-event test, this time with a best effort of 2:02.568; this was some three seconds quicker than the initial lap times, set when the drivers first exited the pit lane at 10:20am.
The session was broken up by a stoppage for Max Snegirev, with the Russian having lost control at Turn 2, although the field was allowed a clear 15 minutes of running time once the green flags were shown.
Britain’s Jack Clarke completed the top three, 1.3 seconds down on Monras, as Mikkel Mac and Kelvin Snoeks rounded out the top five for Denmark and The Netherlands, respectively.
Barcelona’s second Formula 2 practice begins at 3:50pm local time (BST +1)
