Germany’s Tobias Hegewald has finished quickest in the second Formula 2 practice session in Barcelona, topping the timesheets with a best effort of 1:38.333. Behind, Champion Mirko Bortolotti was again second fastest as Christopher Zanella, second in the championship, and morning pace-setter Miki Monras were inside the top five.
Rain came down in sheets in Catalonia this morning, although some afternoon sunshine did held to dry the Montmeló-based track as the second session commenced. Hegewald, Bortolotti and Mihai Marinescu were all rapid at stages, although the period was briefly disrupted by a stoppage for Plamen Kralev.
Hegewald moved ahead when the green flags flew, with Jack Clarke the leading British representative but 1.5 seconds off the leading pace in sixth. The top ten was rounded out by Spaniard José Luis Abadin, although Ramón Piñeiro’s tough day continued as the third-placed championship runner managed only 16th spot.
