Dean Stoneman claims powerboat title

18 September 2012

Dean Stoneman, 2010 F2 Champion, has won the P1 SuperStock UK powerboat title just 18 months after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. The feat marks another achievement in the Englishman’s recovery, as he collected the honours in Weymouth.

The celebrations came as 22-year-old Stoneman and co-pilot Dean Paling claimed a record ninth win in the series this year, including a double victory at the weekend.

“I just kept my foot hard down and focused on keeping the top speed as high as possible on the flat water,” said a delighted Stoneman. “It's always a great feeling to win but this is a special moment as it means I have now won titles on land and water.”

Tragically, the weekend was marred by huge sadness as competitor Mike Lowell was killed in a serious incident. Co-pilot Dan Whapples remains in a serious condition.
