Bacheta to test Williams next Thursday
10 October 2012 – Williams has confirmed that Formula 2 Champion Luciano Bacheta will test their Formula 1 car at Silverstone next Thursday. The outing comes as a reward for picking up the title in the championship organised by Jonathan Palmer’s MotorSport Vision.
Since the modern-day F2 category was launched in 2009, the F1 test drive has been enjoyed by Spain’s Andy Soucek, Britain’s Dean Stoneman and Austro-Italian Mirko Bortolotti. Bacheta is now highly excited about his own day in Northamptonshire.
“All year while I was leading the championship I was thinking that I could be driving a Grand Prix car, so I've been training with F1 in mind,” says the 22-year-old.
“I've received a measurement chart for the race suit and we'll ramp up the preparation now. I'm so excited and I'm really motivated for it; even before I won the championship I thought I would be ready for it.”
Bacheta, who was born in Romford, launched his racing career in 2006 by winning the T Cars championship. He progressed to F2 through the now defunct Formula Palmer Audi, Formula Renault 2.0 and 12 GP3 races last year.
