Sims wins Sunday's Race 2

11 April 2010

Britain's Alexander Sims has claimed victory in Sunday's second round of the championship at Paul Ricard. The ART Grand Prix driver picked up where Jules Bianchi left off for the team last year, leading home the two Signature-Plus cars of Edoardo Mortara and Marco Wittmann.

With Mortara having won the season-opening race in France on Sunday, the Italian finished over seven seconds behind Sims on Sunday but retains the championship lead as the Englishman finished third in the first race.

Despite starting from the back half of Row 3, Sims was able to make his way to the front courtesy of several passing manoeuvres on the circuit which allows for numerous overtakes.

Mortara came from eighth on the grid and was able to take advantage of team-mate Wittmann to pass both the German and Mücke's Roberto Merhi in one dazzling move before the Spaniard eventually finished fourth ahead of Laurens Vanthoor.

Heading to Rounds 3 and 4 of the campaign at Hockenheim in a fortnight's time, the championship will run alongside DTM for the first time this season and Mortara will arrive with a 3-point lead over Sims and Wittmann with Merhi a further five points behind.
